Convert a Monzo statement PDF to Excel or CSV
Drop the Monzo statement PDF below. Brought Forward reads it on your computer, checks every row against the running balance, and downloads a CSV for Excel or a file for Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, OFX or QIF. Nothing is uploaded.
Tested on real statements. Two real Monzo personal statements (6 and 17 pages, 341 transactions in all) read with every balance agreeing, and the statement’s total outgoings, total deposits and closing balance all matching.
Getting the PDF from Monzo
In the Monzo app, open your account, find Statements, choose the dates and export a PDF. Save it somewhere you can find it, then drop it into the box above or choose it with the button.
How Brought Forward reads a Monzo statement
- Monzo lists the newest transaction first. Rows are put back into date order for importing.
- Card payments still marked “(pending)” are flagged as pending.
- The single signed Amount column and the running Balance are read for every row.
- Total outgoings, total deposits and the account balance on page one are compared with the rows.
Into your accounts
- Xero: download the Xero CSV (or OFX) and import it as a bank statement.
- QuickBooks: download the QuickBooks CSV and upload it from Banking.
- FreeAgent: download the FreeAgent CSV and upload it as a statement.
- Excel: the CSV opens directly, with money in, money out, balance and the check result in columns.
Questions
- The Monzo app can export CSV. When do I need this?
- If you can export the period you need as CSV, that’s fine too. Brought Forward helps when you have the PDF statement (from an accountant, a lender or an old download), or want a Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent file with every row checked.
- Is my Monzo statement uploaded anywhere?
- No. It’s read by your browser on your computer. The page is allowed to talk only to the licence server and a cookie-free page counter, and neither receives anything from your statement.
- What if a row doesn’t agree with the balance?
- It’s flagged in red with a cross, and marked in the CSV. Check it against the PDF: usually a page is missing from the file or a figure was misread. The report button tells us the bank (and nothing else) so the layout can be fixed.
- How much does it cost?
- Three statements a day are free. Pro is £8 a month or £69 a year for as many as you like.
