Uploading a bank statement PDF to FreeAgent

FreeAgent takes statements as CSV, OFX or QIF, not PDF. Its CSV is strict: three columns, no header row, dates as dd/mm/yyyy, then the amount (negative for money out), then the description. Brought Forward’s “FreeAgent” download is exactly that.

  • No header row, as FreeAgent asks.
  • Commas and quotes are taken out of descriptions, so every line has exactly three columns.

Uploading it

  1. In FreeAgent, open Banking and choose the bank account.
  2. Choose Upload a statement and pick the file.
  3. Explain the transactions as usual.
