Bank statement PDF to Excel
Choose “CSV for Excel”. It opens straight into Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets with one row per transaction: date (dd/mm/yyyy), description, type, money in, money out, balance, and whether that row agrees with the running balance.

- Dates are written day first (02/03/2026). If Excel is set to US dates it may swap day and month: set the import’s date format to DMY, or set Windows’ region to United Kingdom.
- Amounts have no thousands separators or £ signs, so Excel treats them as numbers.
- The file starts with a byte-order mark so Excel reads £ signs and accents in descriptions correctly.
- “Balance check” says agrees for every row whose running balance followed, and DOES NOT AGREE for any that didn’t.
- A description that starts with =, +, - or @ gets an apostrophe in front, so Excel shows it as text instead of running it as a formula.
Questions
- Can I get an .xlsx file?
- The CSV opens in Excel directly and can be saved as .xlsx from there (File, Save As). A CSV also imports into every accounting package, which an .xlsx doesn’t.
