Importing a bank statement PDF into QuickBooks
QuickBooks Online uploads bank transactions from a CSV file, not a PDF. Brought Forward’s “QuickBooks” download is the three-column CSV it accepts: Date (dd/mm/yyyy), Description and Amount (negative for money out).
The QuickBooks CSV
Date,Description,Amount
02/03/2026,NORTHGATE ENERGY,-82.47
03/03/2026,FENWICK DESIGN LTD INVOICE 1093,1777.79
04/03/2026,HARBOUR COFFEE CO,-3.85
Uploading it
- In QuickBooks Online, go to Banking (Transactions, then Bank transactions).
- Choose Upload transactions (from the Link account menu) and pick the file.
- Choose the account, map Date, Description and Amount (one column for amounts), and pick the dd/mm/yyyy date format.
- Review the transactions in the For review tab.
QuickBooks Desktop users can import the OFX download instead (some versions want a .qbo file, which isn’t made here).
